In seeking to improve mental fitness and self understanding beyond physical, emotional and mental exploration, it will naturally progress towards considering the nature of our spirituality to complete our range of human experience.

Spiritual aspiration for many people is a desire for goodness – a desire to be good, to do good and to have our life attuned to the value of goodness, with its supreme value seen as Universal Goodness.

Spirituality is also allied to ideals of beauty and harmony – a desire to be beautiful – to create beautiful things – to have our life harmonious and perceptive of Universal Beauty.

Spirit is often seen as being synonymous with light and truth. As we seek the light of truth we attempt to be truthful, to follow our principles honestly as we continue our search for Universal Truth.

The most overwhelming essence of all professed spiritual teachings and all spiritual experiences is Love, and this is a reminder of the supreme quality to exercise in our lives and to focus upon in our thoughts on spiritual matters. The same applies, that as we seek to be loving and kind ourselves, we long to be loved. The soul’s deepest yearning is to experience enduring and limitless love, Universal Love.

Since man proved himself capable of questioning his origins and seeking answers for deeper meaning of life and understanding of the spirit, he has sought for illumination regarding the purpose of life and the nature of the Universal Spirit, the Creator. The path towards this goal is well trodden. We have many sages, saints and mystics to serve us by example or by their experience as well as a wealth of sacred texts to help us when we lose our way.

But in our private spiritual quest or in our meditations we have certain expectations that are influenced by our thinking. For instance, if we believe that the ultimate is goodness, we would consider God as divine Beneficence. If our ideal is love, we would wish to experience a greater Love than our own. If the ultimate is equated with power, we could anticipate experiencing something of this Power and grandeur of life.

If we believe in all these but equate spirit with vitality, we will be inclined to express our spirituality in the joy of living and pour our energies enthusiastically into our life enterprises in a positive manner towards constructive outcomes for ourselves and for others.

Spirituality for some, is a reality just that simple.
